The story of humanity is also a story of its catastrophes: floods, ice ages, tornados, volcano outbreaks, country music festivals...

Up till now, we have survived. However, just in time for the beginning of a new millennium, the apocalypse threatens to take on cosmic dimensions and puts our common sense to a new, bigger proof: A young man travels from the very end of the everlasting, flat surfaces of lowland Ostfriesland, to knock at the gates of the big city. In spite of extensive security measures of the responsible Catastrophe Protection Force, he passes through, and heads off to America on an unsuspicious steam liner. He is prepared to do anything, to fulfil his grandfather's dream: safely steering a proud vessel into the harbour of New York City. What he cannot know: A long time ago, some dark powers declared the ship to sink. And so the dream turns into a nightmare, the man turns into a first officer, and German spelling turns into a disaster.
