Plot outline

A city in Germany. Germany in the autumn of 1957 at the time of the economic miracle. The Adenauer-era. A city in reconstruction. Everyone, it seems, benefits from it. Above all, Mr. Schuckert, the successful, jovial, construction king of the city. He is the secret ruler. He has something on everyone and is wide open for any inducement. Star of the "Villa Fink" is Lola, she is actually called Marie-Louise and has a little daughter, Mariechen. The menare crazy about her when she dances and sings. She is a very seductive person. And Mr. Esslin accompanies her - not only on piano. The little employee of the local building department is always seen in Lola's vicinity. Yet Schuckert has the money. None can pass him. Esslin, the dreamer, moralist and war opponent, is mad about the situation that erupts around him. Yet he knows, what is game is played in this city.
Everyone speaks of Mr. von Bohm, the new construction head of the city. He is unlike his predecessor. He is not corrupt, so they say. Will he adapt and play the same game in the city?
