The puzzling murder of Lord Curtain, one of London's richest men, is the prelude to a series of murders, in which the heirs of his stately fortune are killed. Since the "The Ringer's" business card is left at inexplicable crime scenes, the real "Ringer" decides to return to England from his Australian exile, in order to prove his innocence and to bring the real killer down. Although Superintendent Wesby is not particularly pleased, he does finally co-operate with the him.
